First School of Emergency Management in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The IRD hosted, from 9 to 27 November, the First School of Emergency Management in Latin America and the Caribbean. This school was funded by the European Commission and implemented within the framework of an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) technical cooperation project that aims to strengthen national capbilities for response to radiation emergencies. It was based on IAEA Safety Standards and guidelines. There were 32 participants from 16 Latin America and Caribbean countries.
This was the first school developed in the region and according to Elena Buglova, Head of the Inciden and Emergency Centre (IEC), the extensive planning and involvement of the IEC, international experts, Department of Technical Cooperation (IAEA) and Brazil will make this initiative a model for other regions.
